Wilton Said… Newsletter #98 Podcast

Hello and I hope everyone had a great summer, I know mine was pretty relaxing.  Hopefully you’ve got a few minutes to spare as this newsletter is a little lengthy.

Rock Opera
During the early summer the Rock Opera was mastered by Bassist, Engineer and Mastering guy Frank Heisler.  For those who might not know, Frank was the bassist for the Wilton Said… band from 2001 on and off through to 2015.  He also played bass on this Rock Opera recording.  Many thanks again Frank for all you’ve done.  So musically…

I hope everyone is finally enjoying the warm weather.  I know I’ve told myself that I wouldn’t complain about the heat.  No matter the heat, it’s better than winter.

Rock Opera
As mentioned in the last newsletter, mixing has been completed and I’ve spent the last few weeks communicating with Bassist, Engineer and Mastering guy Frank Heisler.  He’s been busy mastering the recording and has been doing a great job.  Early versions were very promising with a few issues of over compression and volume swells. …

Rock Opera
Mixing has been completed as has the mixdown to stereo tracks.  Last weekend Lyricist, Composer and Drummer Barry Brown came over to hear the mixed tracks and he was excited at finally hearing the close to finished tracks.  I say close to finished as even though the mixing has been completed, there’s still the mastering stage where starts, ends, fade outs, volume levels and song markers are adjusted to make for an over all flow from song to song.
There are a few options for Mastering.  Engineer…

I’m currently listening to a variety of Fleetwood Mac as I write this.  One of the songs called “Come” off of 2003’s Say You Will features Lindsey Buckinghams gritty guitar tone along with the pounding rhythms of John Mc Vie and Mick Fleetwood.  This makes for one of their heaviest songs ever.  Overall a great song to rock out to.  Anyways, on to other stuff.

Rock Opera
Mixing has been coming along slowly but surely with about 3/4 of the songs being finished.  It’s been interesting mixing all the textures…

Rock Opera Arrangements and Mixing

For the past 4 months, I’ve been mixing the Rock Opera recording.  ….And it’s taking longer than anticipated.  I’ve come to realize that while the songs themselves are simpler in structure, the textural orchestration and arrangement is more complex than on any of the Wilton Said… recordings.  Thinking about this, it makes sense, as the WS band consisted of drums, bass, guitars, sometimes keyboards and vocals.  In most cases I tried to keep…

What About the Band?
You may have seen that last year I parted ways with my band mates due to conflict of scheduling's and outside obligations.  I was going to work on an acoustic based album, but I really didn't feel pulled to do it, so as of now that idea is scrapped.  I put out a classified ad  looking for potential band members to either form a new band or for me to join their band.  The important aspects for me (in additional to musical) would be band mates who share very similar goals as myself. …

A Change of Pace
It's with unfortunate news that I have chosen to say goodbye to the current band members of Wilton Said…  The additional obligations outside of the band has resulted in a difference of commitment levels making it difficult to come together as a truly unified group.  It has been my utmost pleasure to be working with Bassist Frank Heisler, Drummer Peter Karppi and Guitarist Andrei Pestov (who was slated to replace guitarist Chris Reid) and perhaps I will cross musical paths with them in the…Read more

Goodbye to Guitarist Chris Reid

It's with sadness that Wilton Said… says goodbye to guitarist Chris Reid.  After a great Release Show this last weekend, Chris decided that he wasn't able to give Wilton Said… the due amount of time and energy that would be needed for future shows and recordings.  We wish Chris all the best.
This of course means that we are now looking for a new guitarist.
